Our story

I still walk every new site myself before we put anyone on it.

Kenji Murakami started Grove Vault Zone in the spring of 2014 after twelve years working in corporate security for a logistics firm in Koto Ward. He had spent those years watching contracts go to the cheapest bidder, guards arrive at sites they had never seen, and incident reports that told management what they wanted to hear. When a warehouse fire in 2013 exposed just how thin the actual coverage was, he decided to do it differently. Grove Vault Zone opened with three guards, one patrol vehicle, and a single client in Shinonome.

The name came from a conversation with his father, who ran a small locksmith shop in Nerima for thirty years. The idea was simple: a grove is something that grows slowly and provides shelter; a vault is something you trust with what matters. The combination felt right for a security company that was not trying to be the biggest, just the most dependable. By 2017, the team had grown to twenty-two staff and the client list included two mid-size hotels in Shinjuku, a pharmaceutical distribution centre in Kawasaki, and a recurring contract for a summer outdoor concert series in Odaiba.

What sets us apart

Site-specific planning

Before any assignment begins, our operations lead walks the property in person. We map entry points, blind spots, and emergency routes. No two sites get the same plan.

Bilingual staff

Our guards communicate in both Japanese and English. For international facilities, corporate campuses, and hotels, this removes a layer of friction that causes most incidents.

Transparent shift reporting

Every shift produces a written incident log, delivered to the client by 09:00 the following morning. Nothing is summarised away.

With respect

What our clients say

"We have used Grove Vault Zone for our annual Odaiba summer event for three years. The debrief report they send afterwards is more useful than anything we get from our internal team."
Tomoko IshidaEvents Manager, Odaiba venue operator
"The bilingual capability was the deciding factor for us. Our building has international tenants and the previous agency created more confusion than it resolved."
David HartleyFacilities Director, Shinjuku commercial building
"Kenji came to our site himself before the contract started. That was not something we expected, and it set the tone for the whole relationship."

Event security planning for Tokyo summer festivals

Outdoor events in Tokyo during July and August carry a specific set of security considerations that indoor events do not. Heat affects crowd behaviour, shade structures change sightlines, and the logistics of coordinating with local fire and police liaison vary by ward. This guide covers what event organisers should have in place before the first guest arrives.

Founder & maker

"Kenji Murakami founded Grove Vault Zone in 2014 after twelve years in corporate security logistics in Koto Ward, Tokyo. He trained under a former Tokyo Metropolitan Police officer and spent three years as a night-shift supervisor at a cold-storage facility in Shinonome before moving into operations management. The 2013 warehouse fire that exposed systemic gaps in contracted security coverage was the moment he decided to build something from scratch. Outside work, Kenji cycles the Arakawa River route most Sunday mornings and keeps a small collection of jazz records from the 1960s that he insists are not a hobby, just furniture."

FAQ

Common questions

Do you cover areas outside central Tokyo?

Yes. We regularly work in Kawasaki, Yokohama, and the eastern wards of Chiba. For sites further out, we ask for a minimum contract length of three months to make the logistics work properly. Contact us and we can tell you quickly whether your location is feasible.

Are your guards licensed under Japanese law?

Every guard holds a valid security officer licence under the Security Services Act (警備業法). We do not put unlicensed staff on any assignment. Copies of licences are available to clients on request.

How much notice do you need to staff an event?

For most events, 72 hours is the minimum. For large outdoor events requiring eight or more guards, we prefer at least two weeks notice so we can do a proper site walk and coordinate with venue management. Summer events book up quickly, so earlier is always better.

What happens if a guard calls in sick on the day?

We maintain a standby roster specifically for this. If a guard cannot make a shift, our operations coordinator contacts the replacement and the client before the shift starts. In the twelve years we have been operating, we have not left a site uncovered.
